The bris for the son of the Rosh Yeshivah HaGaon HaRav Tzvi Kushelevsky, 88, took place on Sunday morning, at Yeshivas Heichel HaTorah in the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem.
Thousands of people, especially the Rosh Yeshivah’s talmidim, past and present, participated in the simcha. Many of the Rosh Yeshivah’s talmidim flew to Israel before Shabbos to attend the bris. So many people wanted to attend the bris that the yeshivah was forced to close its doors before Shacharis to prevent overcrowding.
HaGaon HaRav Moshe Kushelevsky was mechubad with the Kisei Shel Eliyahu and HaGaon HaRav Daniel Farbstein served as the kvatter. The father himself, the Rosh Yeshivah, served as the sandek. The mohel was HaRav Chananya Kushelevsky.
HaGaon HaRav Moshe Shternbuch was mechubad with the recital of the brachos following the performance of the bris. The baby was named Eliyahu, which is the name of HaRav Tzvi’s father, HaRav Eliyahu Kushelevsky, z’tl, who was a Rav and Rosh Yeshivah in the US and one of the founders of Yeshivas Chofetz Chaim in New York, and later served as the Rav of Be’er Sheva.
After the recital of the brachos, the Rosh HaYeshivah requested that the kehal recite Yud Gimmel Midos and Acheinu Kol Beis Yisrael for the hatzalah of Am Yisrael during this time of war.
On Friday night, thousands of people streamed to Yeshivas Heichel HaTorah in the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem to attend the Shalom Zachar.
During Kabbalas Shabbos in the yeshivah, the bochurim sang Lecha Dodi to the tune of Zera Chaya V’Kayama and began dancing with the Rosh Yeshivah.
HaRav Kushelevsky spoke before Maariv and talked about the great neis that he experienced in Chodesh Adar which is the month of V’nahafoch Hu – against the force of nature.
The Shalom Zachar began in the dining room but was quickly moved to the heichel yeshiva due to the thousands that walked from neighborhoods from all over the city, including yeshivah graduates that traveled from abroad to attend the simcha.
On Motzei Shabbos, the Vacht Nacht took place, ahead of the bris scheduled for Sunday morning.
מאות אנשים, ובראשם רבנים וראשי ישיבות, השתתפו הבוקר (ראשון) בשמחת הברית לבנו הבכור של ראש ישיבת ‘היכל התורה’ הגאון רבי צבי קושלבסקי, בן ה-88, שחבק בן ראשון, אחרי עשרות שנות ציפייה.
שמחת הברית, שהועברה בשידור חי, נערכה בישיבת ‘היכל התורה’, ויקרא שמו בישראל: אליהו. הגאון רבי יעקב הלל עשה ‘מי שברך’, בסנדקאות כובד אבי הבן ראש הישיבה ומרן פוסק הדור הגאון רבי משה שטרנבוך כובד בברכות.
אתמול התקיים מעמד ה’קרישמע ליינען’ בישיבה, בהשתתפות מאות מתלמידי הישיבה. בליל שבת התקיים שמחת ה’שלום זכר’ והמונים נהרו למקום כדי לאחל מזל טוב לראש הישיבה המאושר.
