Eighteen months ago, Tzedek kicked off a movement that reverberated across the country.

It all began with a bold and audacious plan: Tzedek, which has already pulled off the impossible, would push for a bill ensuring that public and private insurers cover the staggering costs of fertility treatments — a lifeline for countless families facing financial and emotional despair.

The response was overwhelming. Through the groundbreaking “Revolution” campaign and the generosity of Yidden around the globe, over $7 million was raised to drive this mission forward.

Tzedek hit the ground running, building champions, meeting with dozens of members of Congress to pave a path to success, hired top legal experts to draft a bill that could pass but would also actually help people, commissioned a top-notch economic analysis, among other efforts. After 9 months of tireless work, we finally had a bill ready in hand and were at the brink of introduction.

And then ALABAMA happened.

On February 16, the Alabama State Supreme Court made an extreme ruling that resulted in the closing of all fertility clinics in the State of Alabama. What was previously a non-controversial issue, became very controversial. What was previously a non-political issue, became very politicized.

As a result, all of our progress encountered fierce resistance that did not exist before. Opposing interest groups poured $150 million into countering our bill, swaying political allies and placing the initiative in jeopardy. At the same time, critical fertility treatments as a whole began to come under fire for supposed ethical and religious reasons, threatening their availability. Some suggested we close up shop because the challenge was just too great.

But Tzedek doesn’t take no for an answer.

Refusing to yield, Tzedek rallied its forces. Key allies, including Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), emerged with steadfast support, vowing to protect this issue. We audaciously launched a brand new 501c4 to counter the attacks and give the other side of the perspective, that this is as pro-life as it gets because these treatments bring children into the world who would otherwise not exist.

Our message of truth resonated. The resulting Republican-led bill, the HOPE Act (HR 8821), drafted by Tzedek and introduced with bipartisan support, advanced with remarkable momentum, garnering phenomenal cosponsorship.

We then worked with the RNC to put into the Republican Platform clear and strong language that supported access to fertility treatment for the first time in history, despite tremendous pushback.

And then, in a very exciting development, at a campaign rally President Donald Trump declared his administration’s ironclad commitment ensuring that families could access these essential treatments, proclaiming, “We want more babies!”

Today, we are extremely optimistic but the stakes could not be higher, and the bill stands at a critical crossroads, with new leadership poised to help push it through Congress. Tzedek has enlisted the nation’s top lobbyists, attorneys and public relations experts to overcome opposition and secure victory.

Yet this isn’t just a fight for a bill — it is a battle for families waiting with hope in their hearts; for the couples seeking light in their darkest moments; and for the future of thousands who dream of building beautiful families.

Tzedek’s efforts have always been more than political and legislative: they directly impact lives and communities in far-reaching ways. This battle is no exception.
