About Yideos

Yideos is a free kosher video site: a curated library of Yiddish, Hebrew and English videos — Jewish music and concerts, shiurim and Daf Yomi, chassidishe simchas and tishen, heimishe news, comedy, vlogs and podcasts — gathered from channels that have been looked at and chosen, so that families can watch without wading through everything else. About 31,000 videos from 53 channels, in channel pages, thirteen categories and curated collections by occasion and subject. New videos from those channels arrive every hour.

It is built for the way this community actually gets online. Most people who use Yideos watch through a whitelist internet filter — a service that allows only the sites on its list — and the site was designed around that: the whole site lives on one address, every video plays inside it, and when a filter stops a video the player says so and tells you exactly what to ask for. Nothing on Yideos requires an app, a sign-in or a visit to any other site. A free account adds likes, saved videos, watch history and comments; watching needs none of that.

Yideos and internet filters

If you use a whitelist filter — Techloq, Livigent, GenTech, Netfree or another — this is what it needs to allow.

Two things. The site itself, yideos.net, for the pages, thumbnails and search. And embedded video playback inside it: the videos come from vetted YouTube channels and play through YouTube’s embedded player, so the filter has to let that player’s scripts, frames and media through on yideos.net. That is not the same as opening YouTube: only playback inside Yideos is needed, and many filter providers allow exactly that.

How to tell if you are blocked

Open the video connection test. It tries the same things the player tries and says which one failed. On a video page, a blocked player shows a message with a Copy request button rather than a spinner: the rest of the site keeps working, only playback is affected.

What to send your filter provider

This is the same text the player offers. Send it to your provider’s support or add it to a whitelist request; they can switch playback on for your account.

The player needs all the scripts, frames and media it loads from its external video source (youtube.com) to be reachable. Only embedded playback inside yideos.net is required, not general access to video sites.

What Yideos can and cannot do about a filter

Yideos cannot change your filter’s settings; only your provider can. What the site does is keep its side simple — one address, no third-party sign-ins, no downloads, pages that work without extras — and give you the exact request when something is blocked.
