VIN News – Brooklyn, NY – In an effort to get community members more involved in their operations, Masbia Soup Kitchen has come up with a novel fundraising concept: catering simchos at their Coney Island Avenue location. Masbia offers three different options for feeding both invited guests and their regular clients, including serving gourmet fare comparable to what would be found at any wedding hall.
The idea is the brainchild of Rachel Steinmetz, a non-profit executive who worked hand in hand with Masbia to develop a plan that would allow the public to share their simchos with Masbia’s clients by sponsoring the food costs for both Masbia’s regular clientele and their invited guests.
“Traditionally a Jewish wedding celebration included a meal for the poor,” said Ms. Steinmetz in an exclusive interview with VIN News. “Masbia is reinvigorating this beautiful tradition by opening the facility to Sheva Brachos, Bar Mitzvahs and other celebratory events.”
Notables such as Assemblyman Dov Hikind, OTR Media Group CEO Ari Noe and others have held simchos at Masbia in the past and Masbia hopes that others will follow their lead by including Masbia in their upcoming celebrations.
Masbia has locations in Williamsburg, Boro Park, Flatbush and Rego Park. They estimate that they have served approximately 250,000 meals since their inception in 2005.
