Israeli forces were called in to separate reported scuffles that occurred between Palestinians and Israeli settlers in East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood on Monday.
According to local reports, Palestinians and Israeli settlers were throwing chairs at each other and had to be physically separated. In the ensuing confrontation, Israeli forces used stun grenades and water canons which led to at least two Palestinians being arrested and 20 injured, according to reports. One was seen unconscious when handcuffed by the security forces.
Israeli forces also reportedly stormed some of the homes, with resident Mohamed Sub Laban saying that “what happened was that the settlers threw rocks at the Al-Qassem family. The people inside where trying to get out because they were fired at near the entrance. The people were resisting the attacks by settlers. The Israeli army invaded the Al-Qassem family house and beat up the two guys.”
