Israeli police deployed tear gas at protesters rallying against Israel amid further escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, in East Jerusalem on Tuesday.
Footage shows protesters chanting outside Damascus Gate and dispersing as police fire tear gas and water canons.
Israeli airstrikes continued hitting targets in the Gaza Strip on Monday, with the Palestinian death toll in the new phase of the conflict increasing to over 200, including at least 60 children, according to Health Ministry officials. Ten Israeli civilians including two children have been killed by rockets fired by militants from Gaza, Israeli officials say.
The new wave of confrontations began with protests against proposed evictions in East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, and escalated shortly afterwards into a deadly ongoing exchange of rockets and airstrikes.
