Police fires stun grenades and water cannons at protesters in Sheikh Jarrah, on Tuesday, as Palestinians gathered for a general strike and day of action against Israel amid further escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Footage shows police firing stun grenades at protesters, as well as deploying a water canon.
Israeli airstrikes continued hitting targets in the Gaza Strip on Monday, with the Palestinian death toll in the new phase of the conflict increasing to over 200, including at least 60 children, according to Health Ministry officials. Ten Israeli civilians including two children have been killed by rockets fired by militants from Gaza, Israeli officials say.
The new wave of confrontations began with protests against proposed evictions in East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, and escalated shortly afterwards into a deadly ongoing exchange of rockets and airstrikes.
