From heaven You let them hear Your voice, and revealed Yourself to them in clouds of pure mist. The entire world, too, trembled before You, and the creatures of the beginning shook in awe of You — When You, our King, revealed Yourself upon Mount Sinai, to teach Your people Torah and mitzvos. And You let them hear the majesty of Your voice, and Your holy words — out of flames of fire. With thunder and lightning You revealed Yourself to them, and with the sound of the shofar You appeared to them. As it is written in Your Torah: On the third day, when morning came, there was thunder and lightning, a heavy cloud on the mountain, and the sound of a shofar, exceedingly strong — and all the people in the camp trembled. And the sound of the shofar grew ever stronger; Moshe spoke, and G-d answered him with a voice. And all the people saw the sounds and the flames, the voice of the shofar and the mountain smoking; the people saw, and trembled, and stood far off. G-d is exalted with the teruah-blast; Hashem, with the sound of the shofar. With trumpets and the sound of the shofar, shout for joy before the King, Hashem. Sound the shofar at the new moon, at the appointed time for our festival day — for it is a statute for Yisroel, a day of judgment of the G-d of Yaakov. Praise G-d! Praise G-d in His sanctuary; praise Him in the firmament of His power. Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His abundant greatness. Praise Him with the blast of the shofar; praise Him with the harp and the lyre. Praise Him with the drum and dance; praise Him with strings and the pipe. Praise Him with resounding cymbals; praise Him with the cymbals of the teruah. Let every soul praise G-d — praise G-d! All you inhabitants of the world and dwellers on the earth — when a banner is raised on the mountains, you shall see; and when the shofar is sounded, you shall hear. On that day a great shofar shall be sounded, and the lost ones in the land of Ashur shall come, and the castaways in the land of Mitzrayim — and they shall bow to Hashem on the holy mountain in Yerushalayim. Hashem shall be seen over them, and His arrow shall go forth like lightning; the L-rd G-d shall sound the shofar, and go forth in the storms of the south. Hashem, Master of legions, shall shield them; so shield Your people Yisroel with Your peace. Our G-d and the G-d of our fathers: sound the great shofar for our freedom, and raise a banner to gather our exiles. Bring our scattered ones near from among the nations, and gather our dispersed from the ends of the earth. And bring us to Tzion Your city in joyous song, and to Yerushalayim, Your Beis HaMikdash, with everlasting joy. There we will offer before You our obligatory offerings, as we were commanded in Your Torah through Moshe Your servant, from the mouth of Your glory, as it is said: And on the day of your gladness, and on your festivals, and on your new moons, you shall sound the trumpets over your olah-offerings and over your shelamim-offerings; and they shall be for you a remembrance before your G-d: I am Hashem your G-d. For You hear the sound of the shofar, and You listen to the teruah — and there is none like You. Blessed are You, Hashem, Who hears the teruah-cry of His people Yisroel with mercy.
