Thousands of mourners of the ultra-orthodox (Haredi) faith attended the funeral procession of Shas spiritual leader rabbi Shalom Cohen in Jerusalem on Tuesday.
Israeli police closed off roads on the day in anticipation of the huge turnout. Mourners first wrapped the body in a traditional cloth before laying it on the floor surrounded by candle lights. They then proceeded to pray for Cohen before then carrying him to the vehicle where the processions began. He was then buried next to his late wife at a local cemetery.
Authorities sent their condolences to the passing of Cohen who was the leader of the Shas political party and passed away aged 91 after being hospitalized for an infection recently.
