Thanks to Shomrim’s awareness campaign, a $30,000 scam attempt was stopped in its tracks — and two suspects ended up in handcuffs.

On Thursday afternoon, a victim was contacted by scammers pretending to be Secret Service agents, threatening arrest and account freezes unless he handed over $30,000 in cash. Shomrim immediately set up a sting operation together with the NYPD.

With eyes in the sky, cameras watching, and boots on the ground, Shomrim units tracked the suspects. A female “pickup person” approached the victim and demanded the money. The moment the handoff happened, NYPD moved in, arresting her after a brief struggle. The driver waiting for her was also caught red-handed.

The result: two suspects arrested, the victim’s money saved, and another scam shut down.
